ÇìÝñá Åõñùðáúêþí Ãëùóóþí EUROPEAN LANGUAGE DAY. On 21st December 2007 the European language Day was celebrated at school. The teachers’ board ,the parents’ board ,the head principal , the English teachers’ advisor Mrs Poulla Eleni and our students were presented . The importance of foreign language teaching was stressed by the German language teacher Mrs Rauch Monica who said that, knowing how to speak a foreign language is not just a specific qualification for a better vocational rehabilitation but it is a bridge to the gap of racism, of approaching other cultures, of understanding foreign behaviors, of friendship by keeping away the feeling of “ xenophobia”.
With the direction of French teacher , Mrs Smyrnaki Ioanna, French class students ,managed to film an amazing video clip of the well known song” CommeCi comme ca.” Students were surprised and we can say that they had really enjoyed it.The P.E teacher Mrs Neonaki taught some children how to dance a traditional British dance. It was something special because students and teachers were given the chance to know some foreigh culture
. Mrs Nicolaou , who was the supervisor and coordinator of this event, talked about Cyprus and the fact that it is the only European country that has been divided for 34 years by the Turkish troops.
All in all the meaning is that although the island is divided the two populations manage to live together keeping at the side their differences, having an eye to the common future ahead , hoping for a fair solution that will ensure their living in peace. Finally, a school play was performed by students under the guidance of the English teacher Mrs Nicolaou
It has to be mentioned that the play was in English. Everybody was
touched and moved by the children’s acting and on the other hand by
the moral values of the play that was friendship, solidarity,
equality, no racism and that if people want they can overcome their
problems by living peacefully in a society where they would respect
each other’s special cultural differences and needs.
Music couldn’t be out of such an event like this. Mrs Charamountani Jenny, the music education teacher, taught the choir how to sing English, French, German and Greek songs and Christmas Carols too
I don’t know if it was the spirit of Christmas or something else , but we all left more sensitive and aware. Here follow some more pictures of the event.
The choir sang Christmas carol The school play “A FRIEND AMONG US”.
